- The Disease model of addictions (medical model)
- Myths that interfere with treatment and assessment concerns
- Introduction to co-dependency issues: why the co-dependency model will not work for victims or batterers. What treatments methods do work!
- Co-occurring illnesses: effects of substance abuse on the victim and children
- Lethality concerns, additional assessment, and case management needs
- Collaboration with community resources and accountability – System Accountability and compliance with State and Local licensure requirements
- Implementing effective treatment measures that work for batterers who abuse substances
- Obstacles victims face in accessing shelter with substance abuse issues (alternative solutions)
- Assessment tools and interview skills
- Utilization of Drug and Etoh screening/Toxicology labs
- Monitoring, compliance QA/QI, measuring instruments
- Avoid Collusion!!! Establishing effective rules and defining program relationships
- Court relationship – What to say and what not to say in legal correspondence
